Dr. Macdonald has organized over 30 medical and surgical missions to underserved populations of the world, including Ghana, Senegal, Rwanda, Tanzania, Cameroon, the Philippines, and Nicaragua. He co-founded Right to Sight and Health, a non-profit that is now dedicated to these missions and educating health care workers in the developing world, mainly in Ghana.

Here at home, Dr. Macdonald is the ophthalmologist on staff at the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank which serves over 10000 patients with no health care. He is also on the Board of Trustees.

Every year Dr. Macdonald teaches ophthalmologists at the American Academy of Ophthalmology the techniques of SMALL INCISION CATARACT SURGERY, a surgical technique that is employed in the developing world where no modern technology is available and cost only $35.
